The Department of Postal Services (Cyprus Post) is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Communications and Works. It exercises its functions by virtue of the Post Office Law (Chapter 303) and the Electronic Communications and Postal Services Law of 2004, which is fully harmonized with the relevant EC directives (97/67/EC and 2002/39/EC).
According to the above legislation, Cyprus Post, as a Universal Service Provider, is entrusted with the responsibility of providing high quality services in affordable and uniform prices throughout Cyprus. It provides its services through a well-organized postal network of 56 post offices, 1.123 postal agencies and 970 pillar boxes.
The primary task of the Cyprus Post is the upgrading of its ongoing services and products together with the introduction of new services and products, adapted to the citizens’ changing needs both at national and international levels.
Moreover, Cyprus Post aims at maintaining its leading role in the domestic market, by setting goals and developing strategies to effectively face the intensive competition deriving from the liberalization of the postal market, the fast changing postal environment and the new technological developments in the field of telecommunications.
Furthermore, Cyprus Post attaches significant importance to the continuous training and education of its personnel on issues related to customers’ service and job performance, so as to strengthen its competitiveness in the postal market and, at the same time, to introduce its staff to the use of new technology.
In addition, Cyprus Post through an appropriate planning scheme promotes the reform and modernization of the existing postal buildings and office equipment as well as the purchase of technologically advanced office equipment with the view to upgrading the working conditions of the personnel and hence the quality level of services offered to citizens.
Cyprus Post offers the traditional postal services namely Letter Post Services, Stamps and Philatelic Services, Financial Services, Parcel Post Services, as well as a wide range of special services as Registered, Insured Items, cash on delivery items, express items and others.
In addition it offers services open to competition such as International EMS/Datapost Courier Services, delivery of unaddressed advertising items, Private Post Office Boxes Service, priority envelopes, yellow carton boxes, padded envelopes.
